<< Back to Published Articles list A Day in Spirit with my Aunt by Pamela J. Evans as published in The Searchlight (a publication of the Academy of Spirituality and Paranormal Studies) Sep 2009 A few weeks ago I talked with my favourite aunt. The unusual aspect of the chat was that, for the last 10 years, she’s been in spirit. During a reading with a local medium, Heather Jones, my aunt unexpectedly arrived. Heather said, “One of your mother’s sisters is here,” and gave me her name. For the sake of her family who are still uncertain about the subject of spirit communication, I’ll refer to her as Aunt L. Aunt L. congratulated me on my reincarnation teaching and spiritual research and said, “If you ever need help from any of the big name investigators who are now in spirit such as Arthur Conan Doyle, Arthur Findlay or Maurice Barbanell, just think of me and I’ll find them for you.” Until that moment, I’d never heard of Maurice Barbanell. Now I subscribe to the Psychic Press, which he started in the UK, and have most of his books. Six months later, Heather offered me another reading. Having thought over my aunt’s unique offer, I decided to take Heather up on it. Before we started, I explained to Heather that I had a question I hoped would have a long answer. Halfway through the reading, Heather handed me the floor. My aunt was already present and waiting for my question. I said, “Please tell me how you spend your days and nights in spirit.” My aunt began, “We work harder in spirit than we do in the physical plane. We are busier here than in your world. But understand this is by choice. Those who choose to sleep, sleep. Those who choose to work, work. Our spirit body doesn’t need rest because it is pure energy. “Our work here is always of a spiritual nature. I’m very busy helping people make the transition to the spirit world. I work in what we call ‘rest homes’, similar to what you would call hospitals. Because some people from strict religions are very confused about where they are when they come over here, I explain to them that they don’t have to move on until they’re ready. Some souls just want to sleep if they’ve been very sick before they crossed over. I also help young children and animals. “I work with people who come from different spiritual levels, sometimes a lower level of spiritual understanding. They suddenly realize they’re not dead and they don’t know how to deal with it. So they go back to sleep because they think, ‘What else is there to do?’ There are many, many spirits in rest homes and as they awaken, there’s always someone there to talk to them. When they are ready to move on, I work with them to find them suitable commitments, guiding and helping where I can. “I don’t like to rest,” L. says, “because I love my work. But understand, too, that work in your world is not the same as in ours. Over here, our ‘work’ gives us great pleasure. “Because I feel you’re going to be passing this information on, I want to make a point I feel is important. Don’t think of me working here as the elderly woman you remember. Over here, we can choose the age and appearance we want to be. I’m now, in your time measurement, about 39 years old, my red hair is back, and I have a perfectly healthy body.” A year later, having sat helplessly by with two friends who were very sick and wanted to go, I realized I could tell them about what to expect in the spirit world once they got there, but I couldn’t help them get there from here. So, hoping to arm myself with more of Aunt L.’s information, I went back to Heather with more questions. Twenty minutes into the reading, Heather said, “L. is here because she knows you want to ask more questions.” “Hi, L.,” I said, relieved that she was open to more questions. “I wondered if you could tell me how to help people who want to cross over but can’t seem to make the transition. I’ve just recently experienced two situations where I felt helpless.” “If it is their time,” said my aunt, “and they’ve made their peace, they should be moving along. Ninety-nine times out of 100 it may be fear that holds them back. It is not necessarily a disbelief in the other side; it is a fear of the unknown.” At this point, Heather paused and put a hand to her throat. There was a catch in her voice and a deeper male voice continued the conversation, referring to itself as ‘we.’ Heather later explained she had gone into a light trance and her vocal chords had been taken over by a group of more knowledgeable souls in spirit in order to get an important message to this side. Spirit said, “To your question [of] how can you help them … We would suggest you encourage them to tell you who is with them from our [spirit] world. When they realize they are recognizing a loved one who’s gone before them, agree with them and help them find their comfort zone. Tell them it is not their imagination, that it is real. Tell them [the loved ones] have come to show them the way if that person is ready and chooses. And when they realize they are in the hands of trusted loved ones that they hold dearly in their hearts, then they are more willing to relax and trust and will go with them. And thus you see, my dear, their passing will be as easy and beautiful as it should be. “… Even should they say they see no one, there’s no one here—sometimes there is the fear others will think they’re hallucinating, gone over the edge, so to speak—mentally speaking, that is. They may hesitate, but you could encourage them by asking, ‘Is your mother there? Your sister?’ And spirit will help you with this if you’re open to it. Even if you cannot get them to this point, ultimately, when they do let go, their passing will still be very peaceful. You see, it is change that frightens many people, it is letting go of the familiar surroundings. And in most cases they will wonder why they waited as long as they did. Your next question, please.” “I wondered if Aunt L. could tell me what she experienced when she crossed over.” My aunt herself, through Heather, replied, “You’re going back quite a ways. (pause) There were several there, but I had a beautiful sheepdog named Pogo when I was on your side. He met me there [in spirit] and that meant the world to me. … It was like something you would see in a movie, with my dog running ahead through a field with tall waving grass and purple flowers … My dog took me to the light.” “And,” added L., “It was truly, truly beautiful.” The Lesson: Life after Death Is a Fact Thirty years of talking with the ‘dead’ has convinced me that two-way communication with spirit is possible and natural. Skeptics might say the information from my aunt is enlightening, but how do we know if it’s really from her? The information came from three separate readings, each of which contained some confirming fact. In the first reading, when L. introduced herself, she began by talking about my mother and said she wished she could have talked to her about raising her daughter. In the second reading, she described her appearance. In the third, she named her precious dog, Pogo, whom I remember. The readings with L. were not the first time I’d received confirmation I was speaking to relatives on the other side. A medium from Indiana once conveyed to me, “This is a message to Pam from Nonie [my mother]. Now aren’t you glad you waited for the money?” No one except my mother could possibly have said those words. For 10 years when I lived at home, my mother and I had had monthly discussions about money, particularly my lack of it. Her dismissal of the subject was always, “You’ll be glad you waited for the money.” My mother suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for the last four years of her life and didn’t even know me; for the last two years, she couldn’t speak. From her message, I learned that her broken brain was fixed in spirit and her mind was once again clear. And that she was alive and well. Why It’s So Important to Know about Life after Death The more we know about life after death, the less control organized religion has over us. As long as people are unaware of the natural laws of the universe, they will fear death and succumb to the grip of the Church. All religions are guilty of withholding the most important knowledge a person needs in order to live life without fear: the knowledge of life in spirit. Religions close men’s minds, suppress women, and divide and conquer us. Suppressing a soul’s growth is a sin. It’s time for a second reformation in organized religion. If it is to survive, the Church must honour the talents of respected researchers and talented mediums who bring us the truth about life after death. Shakespeare once wrote, “Ignorance is a sin. Knowledge is the wing wherewith we fly to heaven." (c) Copyright 2009, Pamela J. Evans. All rights reserved. |
