Psychic Readings That Changed My Life
by Pamela J. Evans

as published in Open Road (a publication of Edgar Cayce Canada, Summer 2003

Twenty-five years ago, I sat down in front of a little German lady for my first psychic reading, which I had no intention of taking seriously. Thirty minutes later, I stood up thunderstruck at what I’d just heard. My life changed 180 degrees that day.

During lunch, a friend had talked me into trying a psychic reading. An hour later that same afternoon, Mary, the psychic held my hands and spoke a stream of German that her husband translated for me. She described my husband and children accurately, warned me that my dad was sick and must go to a doctor (she was right), and told me I’d been a spiritual teacher in many past lives (I was an agnostic for the last time that day). Then she said, “If you write a book about your special knowledge, you will make a lot of money.” I was an illustrator at that time, not a writer, so I stored that thought away. But the following information was what did it. “Your mother is destroying herself (with alcohol). You must never feel guilty. She is childishly irrational. It’s not your fault”

Those two statements lifted 40 years of guilt from me and prevented another 40 years in the future. I’d never been able to figure out if she was responsible for her misery, or I was. Although I’d rationalized that she was at fault, my tears that day said my heart hadn’t bought it. Then she said, “Your mother has been sick for seven years.” “No, three,” I corrected her. “No, ‘seben,’ she said directly to me instead of through her husband. (Next morning, as I was reviewing the reading, the hair on the back of my neck stood up as I suddenly realized that it was exactly seven years ago that my mother had come home from Florida with serious symptoms of Diabetes.) I immediately booked another appointment.

The second appointment brought my first contact with the dead. By now, I’d read a book on reincarnation, which prompted me to say, “Mary, can you bring my grandfather’s spirit into the room?” She paused, and said directly to me, “I try.” (Spirits will arrive only if they want to communicate) “Ya, he here,” she said, pointing over her left shoulder. “He say, ‘Hi, Pammer!” That was his nickname for me that nobody else used. “He been dead long time,” she continued. Then she described him, his business, peculiarities, and even how he died, which was a mystery because he was a Christian Scientist who wouldn’t go to a doctor. Next she said she saw an explosion…where somebody close to him died (This was later verified by the family. His uncle had been killed when the old City Hall floor collapsed during a political meeting. And a safe had fallen on him.) I had known nothing about it.

“Mary helps the police, too. Paul, Mary’s husband explained that a few years ago, three women were murdered in Strathroy (a small town near London). One day, some family members of the third victim came to Mary to see if she could help find the murderer. Women in the town were afraid to go out. They couldn’t find the killer. Mary told the relatives that the police would find the killer next week. He would be driving a truck with animal blood mixed with human blood. The following week, just as Mary had said, they caught the murderer. He drove a truck that he used to pick up dead animals. Someone in town had spotted it near the last murder, which made him a suspect. They tested the blood and, “Sure enough,” Paul said proudly, “they found two kinds of blood just as Mary had said they would. And he was convicted of all three murders.”

Another time,” said Paul, “some people came from the United States to see Mary. Their son had been abducted and they wanted to find him. Mary was just new in the country then, so she asked them to bring her a map of North America. She put her finger on their boy’s location. They went out west to the place where Mary had said he’d be and brought him home. The following week, they sent Mary the nicest ‘thank you’ letter. Mary gets all kinds of letters, you know,” he said, “from all over the world.”

The three most important points of that first reading opened a new door in my thinking. First, she relieved me of 40 years of guilt in connection with my mother and she saved me from another 40 years of the same. Second, she introduced me to the concept of reincarnation, which has helped me through some tough times. Third, she told me where I’d come from (Spiritual teacher in many past lives). What I’m here for in this life (To teach). And what I’m meant to do in the future (Write a book about my special knowledge that will be successful). Without Mary’s help, I’d never have known I could write. Priceless information.

My first psychic reading started a quest and a feast of reading, starting with Edgar Cayce, that continues to this day. After so many years of wonderfully helpful readings, I now know that good mediums are our national treasure. They can help give people insight to life’s relationships and problems. They can put people in touch with loved ones who’ve passed into the spirit world. And, unlike contrived creeds and dogmas, they can bring the spiritual truth to all of us.
